Make a simple flowchart online

A simple flowchart is often enough to explain a process, decision, or sequence. You can make one quickly with rectangles, straight lines, and short text labels in a browser canvas.

Start with the sequence

Write the steps before drawing. A small flowchart is easier to read when it has three to seven boxes. If the process has more steps, split it into a high-level version first and add details later.

Draw boxes and connectors

  1. Choose the rectangle tool and draw one box for each main step.
  2. Use the line tool for connectors between steps.
  3. Hold Shift while drawing a connector when you want a clean horizontal or vertical line.
  4. Use the Text tool to label each box.
  5. Export the flowchart as a PNG for sharing.

Keep the flowchart readable

Use consistent spacing, avoid tiny labels, and keep connectors from crossing whenever possible. A white background is usually best for documents, while a transparent background can work well for slides or overlays.

When a simple canvas is enough

PlainCanvas is useful for rough process notes, classroom explanations, quick product flows, and meeting sketches. If you need automatic layout, linked data, or reusable symbols, use a dedicated diagramming app after the rough idea is clear.
